With 80% of Africa’s agricultural production coming from smallholder farmers mainly in rural areas, the potential for increased productivity with access to finance is enormous. The Rural and Agricultural Finance course is targeted for financial services providers setting up divisions that would provide a range of financial solutions to the rural and small holder farmers in agricultural related activities. The key topics to include an overview of rural and agriculture finance, key risks, how to mitigate the risk, agricultural lending methodology- challenges of agriculture lending, loan application appraisal, monitoring and recovery. The course will also look at how financial institutions can successfully leverage value chain relationships and improve their credit delivery model.
The sessions are engaging and participatory with the delivery method combining lecturing, group work and case study reviews. Activities include group exercises, presentations and feedback sessions.
