The need to develop increasingly flexible and responsive financial products constitutes perhaps the most compelling challenge facing the microfinance industry today. This is an essential requirement not only to capture the market, but to meet the primary objective of most mission driven MFIs, that is to provide financial services to the poor in a financially inclusive sustainable way.
The course is designed to provide guidelines for a process of product development that is systematic, client focus, analysis driven and result oriented. At the end of the course the participants will have achieved sound base for initiating a product development process in their respective institution.
The course content includes an introduction to product development, market research, product concept and design, costing and pricing, pilot testing and roll out of products.
The course methodology is participatory and designed to address an audience of senior managers of MFIs who are responsible for operational activities and results. Based on adult learning principles the course is delivered through discussions, mini-case studies, groups and individual exercises.
